![]() ![]() A Cyclops with a Prawn Suit docked is arguably the best vehicle duo to get you to the Lost River, but it’s probably better to scout out the area with a Seamoth first. A Rebreather will help you a lot, but it isn’t necessary as long as you’re quick. Your Seamoth will take you close to Nickel Ore, but you’ll need to dive a little further and collect the Nickel Ore yourself. ![]() Next, you’ll want a Reinforced Dive Suit and an Ultra High Capacity Tank. Without the Depth Module, however, you’ll be crushed before you even get close. ![]() Having a Sonar System and a Perimeter Defense System would make your expedition into the Lost River much easier, but they aren’t strictly necessary. The first thing you’ll need is a Seamoth with a MK3 Depth Module. I’ll cover that later, but for now, I’ll tell you what equipment you need to get there. If you haven’t seen Nickel Ore in your playthrough, I’ll assume that you won’t have made it to the Lost River either. If you don’t have the right equipment, you can forget about even getting close to Nickel Ore. This means you’ll be going deep, far deeper than you’ve ever been before. Preparing your expedition for Nickel OreĪs I said, Nickel Ore can only be found in biomes found right at the end of Subnautica’s storyline. This guide will make your time finding this precious metal much easier. You’ll only be able to obtain it late in your playthrough, as Nickel Ore can only be found in two of the final biomes you’ll visit. ![]() Nickel Ore is one of these vital resources, but unsurprisingly, it’s also one of the toughest materials to get. You will need all three if you want to explore the Crystal Caves.Subnautica is littered with important resources that are required for equally important crafts, with the most essential resources lying in the deep. Rebreather, Seaglider, High Capacity O2 Tank - These are all very useful for exploring at these depths.Recommended for any encounters with Leviathans and other angry creatures. Afterburner Upgrade - The Afterburner upgrade for the Seatruck gives you the speed boost necessary to get out of difficult situations.Primitive Defense System Upgrade - This Seatruck upgrade is crucial for venturing past the Chelicerate and for any potential run-ins with other fauna.Ideally, you'd want the Mark 3, but you need Kyanite to craft it, so you'll have to do without it for now. Depth Module Mark 2 - This is the bare minimum for venturing as deep as the Crystal Caves. It's one of the best vehicles in the game for this reason. Because you will inevitably run into aggressive fauna along the way (the Chelicerate near the Purple Vents, the Cryptosuchus on the way to the biome, and potentially the Shadow Leviathan in the Crystal Caves) the Seatruck helps you stay out of trouble. Seatruck - This is pretty much essential for getting down to the depths required for the Crystal Caves. What you need before going on a hunt for Kyanite: RELATED: Subnautica: Below Zero - Where To Find Silver Ore This is a safer route than venturing through the Purple Vents, though it can be a bit tricky to find. Do not venture too far into the center of the Crystal Caves as a Shadow Leviathan roams that area.Īn alternative route includes a small hole close to Marguerit Maida's Base. Once you find it, you can drop down straight into the Crystal Caves biome. You will need to venture beyond 500 meters to get to where the Kyanite resides. The Crystal Caves are deep purple in color.Dive down to a depth of around 350 meters and you will see the beginning of the Deep Purple vents, and then beyond that, the entrance to the Crystal Caves.Watch out for the Chelicerate that roams the Northern part of the Purple Vents biome.Head South from the Drop Pod location, around 900-100 meters, until you reach the Purple Vents biome. To complete the story and explore everything that Below Zero has to offer, you will need Kyanite. Kyanite is used to craft some valuable upgrades, like the Seatruck Depth Module Mark 3 and the Prawn Suit Depth Module Mark 2. Because the Fabricator Caverns are accessed via the Crystal Caves and are extremely dangerous, we will be focusing only on the Crystal Caves for the purposes of this guide. Kyanite is only found in two locations in Below Zero: the Crystal Caves and the succeeding Fabricator Caverns. ![]()
